Our Mission, Values, and Goals
The Office for Access and Equity provides resources and services that further the university’s commitment to provide educational and employment opportunities that are equitable, accessible, and inclusive for all.
We are committed to excellence and integrity in our work, respect and responsiveness in our interactions with constituents, and collaboration with campus partners to advance the university’s values of equity, inclusion, academic freedom, and human dignity.
Under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, OAE is an integral part of the university’s effort to be a place where all people are valued, welcomed, and feel they can fully participate in the academic, research, and community engagement mission of the university.
Land Acknowledgment
As a land-grant institution, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has a responsibility to acknowledge the historical context in which it exists. We are currently on the lands of the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Piankashaw, Wea, Miami, Mascoutin, Odawa, Sauk, Mesquaki, Kickapoo, Potawatomi, Ojibwe, and Chickasaw Nations. It is necessary for us to acknowledge these Native Nations and for us to work with them as we move forward as an institution. Over the next 150 years, we will be a vibrant community inclusive of all our differences, with Native peoples at the core of our efforts.
